in which只有在定语从句中先行词是way并且在从句中做状语时才可以换成that。
例如：I don't like the way in which/that he spoke. 我不喜欢他说话的方式。
但是，在定语从句中，如果先行词是指时间或地点，并且在从句中做状语，in which是介词短语做状语， 可以用 when/where 代替，因为when/where在从句中也是做状语。
例如： This is the factory in which/where he works. 这是他上班的工厂
